Meet Cheryl Hutchens

On November 13, 2015 shortly after my 57th birthday I found out I had ovarian cancer. I was going into surgery not knowing the outcome. My surgery went for hours and hours that day with my sister Diana waiting for the doctor to come out. When I woke up I knew something was wrong as my daughter was there as well. The doctor came in and said the unthinkable words no one wants to hear, you have ovarian cancer. At the moment I stopped looking at my future and went day by day to live. The day I found out, I felt numb. I wasn’t sure how to process it. I didn’t know what the next weeks, days or months would be like. Cancer seems to run in my family but each was a different kind.

My name is Cheryl Hutchens and I am the mother of 3 children Josh, Crystal, and Mike which I have raised all on my own since the youngest was born. I also have 6 grandchildren ages 10-18 that I love with all my heart, I would do anything for them. I tend to put my needs aside for my children and grandchildren, they come before my needs. So when it was time for them to help me it was very hard to let them, as I was always used to just doing it all by myself.

My treatment started off with weekly chemo treatment. It lasted until April of 2016 It was very hard on my body as it is on anyone that has to go through it. I was not sure what would come day by day. Some days were good while other days were not so good. I had my wonderful friend Jean along with my sister Diana who took me to all my appointments while helping me through some tough times. I was in remission for about two years when we discovered it came back that was in 2017

I was put on another chemo which did not do well with me when another doctor said let’s try this chemo that I have been on since. I was told at that point I would have to be put on a maintenance dose probably for the rest of my life so the cancer wouldn’t grow in more places.

I couldn’t be any happier with all the little moments I have with my family ,friends, as I thought I might not have had them.

Thank you to all that is involved. Thank you to my family for being there to help. Thank you to my friends being there to listen and make me laugh when I need it. Thank you to My happy Haven for this beautiful makeover to be able to relax in.
